My Dive Gets an 8.4(!?)

According to a very nice email from Amy Liu of blogged.com I received today:

"Our editors recently reviewed your blog and have given it an 8.4 score out of (10) in the Recreation/Games category of blogged.com."

I'm listed first in recreation/games/chess/. The only problem is that some of the blogs below me are actually much better blogs! I mean Streatham & Brixton? And a host of others.

Well it's flattering but one must believe that eventually they'll come to their senses and put me somewhere well below No. 1-- but heck, I guess I'll enjoy the moment, while it lasts.

Hi Robert, congratulations on that, whatever it means. I would not feel too uneasy about it. In my own opinion, most of the blogs have their good and bad points at different times.

When a blog begins to annoy me, I stop looking at it for awhile and then I come back to see if there were any improvements. This I think, is good, because most of the bloggers are trying to improve when they have the time to commit to it.

Congrats! I wonder where they come up with some of their choices. Some of those blogs haven't been updated in awhile. There are a lot of good ches blogs that aren't even mentioned.

Eric is right. Every blog has it's good and bad points. Also what one reader likes, another might hate. Each to their own.

clearly how it all works:

(we really all love and enjoy your blog, but not the point here:::)

they obviously measure connectivity and you make more references and give more credit than ANYONE ELSE, bar none.

its doubtless a calculation, via some type of agent. thus, there is no subjectivity i venture to guess, and its a raw score.

simple but effective not in finding best blogs but in finding good blogs connected to good blogs IMHO.

Congrats! I noticed I've got a 6.1 score on the list. Maybe if I actually start writing some blog entries again it might get a bit higher! :)

From their FAQ, it seems it is not based on links (like the blog 'stock markets' that were all the rage a couple of years ago):

Click on their FAQ at the bottom of the page:
On what do you base these ratings?

Editor reviews are based on the following criteria: Frequency of Updates, Relevance of Content, Site Design, and Writing Style. Blogs are compared to other blogs within the same category. Blogs that have not been reviewed by an editor will receive a "first impression score" by our system, which evaluates similar criteria. Ratings are not meant to endorse, promote or advertise a blog. They are an unbiased critique by editors. Currently, we may only provide editorial reviews for English language blogs.

I'm not sure how they got my blog in there. I sure didn't request it! Accept it, Robert, you have the best chess blog on the entire web!!! :)

Admit it buddy. You're THE man! :)

So when are you going to change the look of the blog to add more advertisements.

Congrats!

You probaly deserved it.

I find it hard to judge chess blogs myself, since a lot of blogs have posts that are way beyond my level anyway. Therefore my preferences usually are those that give a good read, can help my own progress or direct me to other interesting links.

Your posts usually score in at least two of those three catagories.

Dude! Congratulations, maybe you can start getting some endorsements from Coke or something.

The weird part is that almost everyone seems to be above average. Unless they don't list the blogs that suck.
