I'm going to be out of town and out of touch for the next few days, so I got my Round 3 game of the Reno CC Class B Ch. in on Saturday with A. Mann (1602) (he had White) and was able to defeat him and finish the first cyle with 1.5 out of 3.
Don't have the score available, but here are the first moves from memory: 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 e6 3. d4 ed 4. Nxd4 Nc6 5. b3 (surprise! He said he had never played this before, but saw an article and decided to try it out) Nf6 6. Nxc6 bc 7. e5? Qa5+ 8. c3 Qxe5+ and Black had a pawn up and the better position. I was able to avoid allowing any major counterplay and won on move 34 when he overlooked a shot that won a piece.
So, onward with enthusiasm to the second cycle!
By the way, fellow blogger and Reno CC A-player E. Shoemaker played his third consecutive draw in the A section this weekend, according to reports. See The Sage in the Tower to follow his quest for chess perfection.
