I'm Now at GM Nigel Davies' "The Chess Improver"

I have begun a weekly "column" at GM Nigel Davies site The Chess Improver. That will likely be my main venue for writing about chess in the near future, but there are some pretty good archives here, if you care to browse.

There are a few pretty bad ones, too, but your odds are good, even if the goods are odd.

My first post there is A Broad View of Improvement.

And remember, there are BIG things in our future!

Didn't he get promoted to Admiral?

The Chess Improver is a nice site, but since comments are turned off there, I'll have to post here.

While I enjoyed your intro article and look forward to your future thematic posts there, I admit I was a bit taken aback by the "I'm never doing this again" statement. So is it true that the last bad loss you suffered drove you from tournament play forever? Inquiring minds want to know.

Geek answer re: Captain Kirk - since the last Star Trek movie "rebooted" the series by erasing all events after it occurred, he's still only a captain.

Practical answer - more people liked and watched Captain Kirk than Admiral Kirk.

To clarify--"never again" referred to living and dying by rating points, rather than never playing tournament chess. I will return to that, drive my enemies before me, and hear the lamentations of their women.

For that is what is good in life.

As we keep hurling into the future in warp drive as it seems it is the remembrance of all those Star trek episodes of yesteryear that bring back fond memories.
